The Three Feathers
There was once upon a time a king who had three sons, of whom two had been clever and sensible, but the third did not converse a lot, and was simple, and was called the simpleton. When the king had turn out to be old and weak, and was pondering of his finish, he did not know which of his sons ought to inherit the dominion after him. Then he mentioned to them, go forth, and he who brings me probably the most lovely carpet shall be king after my death.
And that there ought to be no dispute amongst them, he took them outside his citadel, blew three feathers within the air, and mentioned, you shall go as they fly. One feather flew to the east, the other to the west, but the third flew straight up and didn't fly far, but soon fell to the ground.
And now one brother went to the fitting, and the other to the left, they usually mocked simpleton, who was pressured to stay the place the third feather had fallen. He sat down and was sad. Then unexpectedly he noticed that there was a trap-door shut by the feather. He raised it up, discovered some steps, and went down them. Then he got here to a different door, knocked at it, and heard anyone inside calling - little green ready-maid, waiting-maid with the limping leg, little canine of the limping leg, hop hither and thither, and shortly see who's without.
The door opened, and he saw a great, fats toad sitting, and round about her a crowd of little toads. The fats toad requested what he wanted. He answered, I should wish to have the prettiest and finest carpet within the world. Then she referred to as a younger one and stated - little green waiting-maid, waiting-maid with the limping leg, little canine of the limping leg, hop hither and thither, and convey me the good box.
The young toad introduced the box, and the fats toad opened it, and gave simpleton a carpet out of it, so stunning and so tremendous, that on the earth above, none may have been woven like it. Then he thanked her, and climbed out again.
The two others, nonetheless, had appeared on their youngest brother as so stupid that they believed he would find and convey nothing at all. Why should we give ourselves a substantial amount of trouble looking out, said they, and received some coarse handkerchiefs from the primary shepherds' wives whom they met, and carried them dwelling to the king.
At the similar time simpleton also came back, and introduced his beautiful carpet, and when the king noticed it he was astonished, and said, if justice be carried out, the kingdom belongs to the youngest. However the two others let their father have no peace, and mentioned that it was not possible that simpleton, who in every thing lacked understanding,
ought to be king, and entreated him to make a brand new agreement with them.
Then the father mentioned, he who brings me the most lovely ring shall inherit the kingdom, and led the three brothers out, and blew into the air three feathers, which they had been to follow. These of the two eldest once more went east and west, and simpleton's feather flew straight up, and fell down close to the door into the earth.
Then he went down again to the fats toad, and informed her that he wished probably the most lovely ring. She directly ordered her massive box to be introduced, and gave him a hoop out of it, which sparkled with jewels, and was so stunning that no goldsmith on earth would have been capable of make it.
The 2 eldest laughed at simpleton for going to hunt a golden ring. They gave themselves no trouble, however knocked the nails out of an outdated carriage-ring, and took it to the king, but when simpleton produced his golden ring, his father once more mentioned, the kingdom belongs to him. The 2 eldest didn't cease from tormenting the king until he made a third situation, and declared that the one who brought essentially the most
beautiful lady house, should have the kingdom. He once more blew the three feathers into the air, and so they flew as before.
Then simpleton with out more ado went right down to the fat toad, and stated, I'm to take dwelling the most stunning woman. Oh, answered the toad, probably the most lovely woman. She just isn't at hand in the mean time, however nonetheless you shall have her. She gave him a yellow turnip which had been hollowed out, to which six mice were harnessed. Then simpleton mentioned quite mournfully, what am I to do with that. The toad answered,
simply put considered one of my little toads into it. Then he seized one at random out of the circle, and put her into the yellow coach, however hardly was she seated inside it than she changed into a splendidly beautiful maiden, and the turnip into a coach, and the six mice into horses. So he kissed her, and drove off rapidly with the horses, and
took her to the king.
His brothers, who came afterwards, had given themselves no bother at all looking for stunning girls, but had introduced with them the first peasant girls they chanced to meet. When the king saw them he mentioned, after my loss of life the kingdom belongs to my youngest son. But the two eldest deafened the king's ears afresh with their clamor, we can not consent to simpleton's being king, and demanded that the one whose spouse could leap by means of a ring which hung in the centre of the corridor should have the preference. They thought, the peasant ladies can do that easily, they are sturdy enough, but the delicate maiden will leap herself to death.
The aged king agreed likewise to this. Then the 2 peasant girls jumped, and jumped via the ring, but had been so clumsy that they fell, and their coarse legs and arms broke in two. After which the pretty maiden whom simpleton had brought with him, sprang, and sprang by means of as calmly as a deer, and all opposition had to cease. So he acquired the crown, and has dominated wisely for a size of time.
